Senior Industrial Safety Consultant

Senior Industrial Safety Consultant – Nuclear

Locations: Greenville, South Carolina | Houston, Texas (Hybrid / Remote options may be considered)

About Vysus Group

Vysus Group is a leading engineering and technical consultancy providing specialist industrial safety, asset performance, risk management, and project management expertise across complex industrial assets and the energy sector, including nuclear, oil & gas, renewables, and the energy transition.

The global nuclear sector is experiencing a renewed phase of growth, with new large-scale reactors, small modular reactors (SMRs), advanced reactor concepts, and life-extension of existing facilities all progressing in parallel. This “nuclear renaissance” is increasing demand for experienced, independent industrial safety and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) professionals who can support clients operating in highly regulated, safety-critical environments.

To meet this demand, Vysus Group is expanding its U.S. nuclear and high-hazard capability, with a focus on strengthening our presence in Greenville, South Carolina and Houston, Texas, supporting domestic and international clients through independent, safety-critical HSE and safety-assurance services.

Role Overview

The Senior Industrial Safety Consultant provides independent HSE and industrial safety advisory, assessment, and assurance services to nuclear and other high-hazard projects. The role focuses on helping clients establish, evaluate, and improve safety management systems, comply with regulatory requirements, and foster strong safety and nuclear safety culture.

This position is consultative and assurance-focused, supporting owners, operators, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPCs), and government clients rather than performing direct construction supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver independent industrial safety and HSE consultancy on complex nuclear and high-hazard projects in the U.S. and internationally
  • Develop, review, and assess HSE strategies, management systems, and project safety documentation
  • Provide expert advice on hazard identification, risk control, and safe work execution
  • Interpret and apply U.S. and international regulatory frameworks (Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), DOE Worker Safety & Health, NRC interfaces, and applicable international standards)
  • Perform regulatory gap assessments, compliance reviews, and audit support, providing clear, defensible recommendations
  • Perform and review advanced safety and risk studies, including hazard analyses, risk assessments, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), fire protection, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) (as applicable), and safety case inputs
  • Support integration of industrial safety into nuclear safety cases and risk-informed decision making
  • Support development of industrial and nuclear safety culture through training, leadership engagement, and performance reviews
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to client leadership and project teams
  • Lead or support delivery of HSE technical work packages, ensuring quality, schedule, and scope control
  • Interface with clients, regulators, EPC partners, and multidisciplinary teams

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related discipline
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial safety and/or HSE roles within nuclear, construction, manufacturing or other high-hazard industries
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Industrial safety management systems
    • Hazard analysis and risk assessment
    • Regulatory compliance and assurance
  • Strong professional-level English (written and spoken)

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting nuclear facilities, DOE sites, or NRC-regulated projects
  • Professional HSE certification (e.g. CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent)
  • Experience in project or technical task leadership
  • Familiarity with nuclear safety culture principles
  • Valid driver’s licence, as travel to client sites is expected

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work within a global, multi-disciplinary safety and risk consultancy
  • Exposure to nuclear new build, SMRs, advanced reactors, and life-extension projects
  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
  • Flexible working arrangements, including hybrid and remote options
  • Strong emphasis on professional development, technical excellence, and thought leadership
