Fitness‑For‑Service (FFS) Specialist
Vysus Group is a leading engineering and technical consultancy offering specialist asset performance services, risk management and project management expertise across complex industrial assets, energy assets (oil and gas, nuclear, renewables) and the energy transition.
We are seeking an experienced Fitness‑For‑Service (FFS) Specialist to deliver advanced engineering assessments in accordance with API 579 / ASME FFS‑1, including Level 3 evaluations. This role focuses on high‑complexity integrity challenges requiring strong analytical capability and sound engineering judgment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform API 579 / ASME FFS‑1 Level 1, 2, and Level 3 assessments using Finite Element Analyis (FEA) software
- Conduct advanced evaluations for corrosion, cracking, dents, laminations, weld flaws, and other damage mechanisms
- Apply fracture mechanics, plastic collapse, fatigue, and remaining life methodologies
- Assess piping stress and perform assessments to address any issues (using CAESAR-II or similar)
- Perform other assessments such as tank stability, creep life of heater tubes and minimum pressurization temperature assessments
- Prepare high‑quality, defensible technical reports suitable for regulatory and client review
- Interface with inspectors, integrity engineers, and clients to validate inspection inputs and assumptions
- Review and interpret NDE data (UT, PAUT, AUT, MT, PT, etc.)
- Support repair decisions, re‑rating, and continued‑service justifications
- Participate in peer reviews and technical assurance processes
- Maintain knowledge of current standards, code updates, and best engineering practices
- Present findings to clients and demonstrate solid communication skills
Technical Scope
- API 579 / ASME FFS‑1 (all damage mechanisms)
- Pressure vessels, piping systems, storage tanks
- Stress analysis and structural integrity
- Remaining life and fitness‑for‑operation assessments
- Support to RBI and integrity management programs
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, or equivalent)
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA (mandatory)
- Demonstrated experience performing API 579 Level 3 FFS assessments
- Strong understanding of failure mechanisms and structural assessment methods
- Experience with engineering assessment tools and finite element analysis is an asset
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Eligibility Requirement
- Must hold a valid work permit or permanent residency
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA
